Covid-19 Precautions for 2020

With the high volume of individuals we know enjoy and use the pianos daily, combined with the potential for spreading Covid-19 through frequent contact with the piano keyboards, we have implemented some key changes to support everyone's health & safety, including:

  • Reduced number of pianos from 8 to 5
  • Increased frequency of cleanings daily
  • Signage to encourage physical distancing
  • Working with the public to remind everyone to "play safe"

In partnership with:

“Pianos in Parks” is an initiative created by Festivals Kelowna in 2015 with a goal to animate and decorate public spaces through community interaction.

Inspired by similar ‘pop-up piano’ initiatives that run in cities all around the world, 2020 will showcase 5 free, playable and accessible pianos in high profile, public spaces throughout our community including downtown Kelowna, and Rutland that will encourage residents and visitors to reveal their "inner Mozart".

Decorated by local artists in a collaborative effort, our pianos have showcased the artwork of visual artists Jolene Mackie, Alex Fong, Mark Ocampo, Shannon Wilson, Bobby Vandenhoorn, RSS students and members of the Festivals Kelowna staff team. Not only will the pianos be functional but will add to the public art landscape in urban and park spaces. They are all unique and visually delightful. Can you decide which one is your favourite? They’re all pretty fabulous!

“Pianos in Parks” 2020 will be open for playing from mid-July to early September and can be found in these locations:

  • Jim Stuart Park
  • NEW - Bennett Clock on Queensway (near the new public washrooms)
  • Artwalk (between the Kelowna Courthouse and the Library Parkade)
  • Arts Common (in front of the RCA)
  • Roxby Park (Rutland)

We invite you to play a public piano, take a pic, or video of yourself or your friends, and share it on social media. You can even tag it #PianosInPark #ExploreKelowna
